Did you know that your eyes can sometimes “hide” signs of a vestibular problem?
That’s where infrared video goggles come in. These specialized goggles are designed to record eye movements in total darkness, allowing your vestibular physical therapist to observe involuntary movements called nystagmus without visual fixation (eyes focusing in regular light) getting in the way.
👀 Normally, your brain uses visual input to help stabilize your gaze. This visual fixation can actually suppress abnormal eye movements during an exam, making it harder to catch signs of dizziness, vertigo, or imbalance.
💡 By removing fixation, infrared goggles allow us to:
Detect subtle or hidden nystagmus
Improve diagnostic accuracy
Tailor your treatment plan with more confidence
Track your progress over time with video documentation
Infrared video goggles enhance the precision of our vestibular evaluations—leading to faster answers and more targeted care.
